Job Description

The Indiana University School of Medicine’s Acute Care Surgery Division and IU Health Physicians are actively seeking a highly qualified surgeon with fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery as an Associate Trauma Medical Director.  They will assist in the oversight and leadership of the trauma program. This role involves collaborating with the Trauma Medical Director to ensure high standards of trauma care, performance improvement, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be a board-certified physician with a strong background in trauma care and a commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and community outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership:
Provide clinical oversight and leadership in the management of trauma patients.
Participate in trauma call coverage and ensure timely and effective patient care.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement trauma care protocols and guidelines.
Performance Improvement:
Assist in the development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives.
Monitor and analyze trauma care outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
Participate in trauma morbidity and mortality reviews and other quality improvement activities.
Education and Training:
Provide education and training to medical staff, residents, and other healthcare professionals on trauma care.
Participate in the development and delivery of trauma-related educational programs and conferences.
Mentor and support the professional development of trauma team members.
Administrative Duties:
Assist in the development and implementation of trauma program policies and procedures.
Participate in trauma program accreditation and regulatory compliance activities.
Collaborate with hospital administration to ensure adequate resources and support for the trauma program.
Research and Innovation:
Participate in trauma research initiatives and contribute to the advancement of trauma care knowledge.
Support the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations.
Community Outreach:
Develop and implement community outreach programs to promote trauma prevention and education.
Collaborate with local organizations and agencies to enhance community awareness and engagement in trauma care initiatives.
Represent the trauma program at community events and forums to foster relationships and partnerships.

Qualifications: M.D., D.O. or equivalent education, Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery, Board certified/eligible in Surgical Critical Care
Strong commitment to teaching, research, and clinical excellence, Able to obtain IN licensure

Compensation: Salary and academic/clinical rank will be commensurate with experience. Generous CME allowance, research and professional support is provided.
