Overview
This individual provides direct patient care according to established protocols, policies, procedures, and accepted standards of care. Functions within the approved scope and credentials as approved by Beebe Medical Center credentialing committee. Follow established standards, procedures, and practices, and give specific patient care directions to nurses and other staff. Must be able to obtain a Delaware license to practice in a field of specialty and hold a DEA upon eligibility.
Responsibilities
Maintain the well-being and independent functioning of aging adult patients.
Refer patients to other specialists for suspected health problems outside the geriatrician scope of practice.
Able to weigh the potential benefit of a treatment against the possible risks to the aging patient.
Focusing on the patients’ physical, mental, and emotional functioning.
Possess great bedside manner and able to broach the subject of advance care planning with patients and families, including discussions about long-term care alternatives, palliative, and hospice care, etc.
Skills
Effectively communicate with co-workers to ensure the best care and the proper procedures.
Must be able to communicate in highly stressful environments.
Offer full attention to an individual person or group to fully understand problems and their nature
Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
Able to act autonomously and make difficult decisions that would benefit the patient or make corrections.
Endure intense situations and handle pressure that comes with extreme situations
Must be trustworthy.
Credentials
Board Eligible/Board Certified in area of specialty
MD/DO Degree
Licensed to practice medicine and able to obtain a Delaware License, CSR, and DE
