Children’s Mercy is expanding our consultation/liaison (C/L) team. We have been approved to recruit 5 new faculty positions to provide inpatient psychology consultation, including to a new med/surg unit that will open in early 2026 and will be designed for, and dedicated to, patients with acute or chronic medical conditions who need a higher level of behavioral health support. These faculty will work with our current C/L team to support psychology consultation across the hospital as well as to our new dedicated med/surg unit.
In addition to inpatient C/L work, candidates who are interested in working as part of a pediatric subspecialty team will be supported with time dedicated to that work. We are particularly interested in faculty who may want to be part of our rehabilitation medicine, solid organ transplant, or surgery (urology, cleft lip/palate, craniofacial, trauma) teams, or are interested in working with youth who have functional neurological disorders and/or pain disorders. If an applicant has a specific interest not outlined here, we would be happy to discuss potential opportunities.
Children’s Mercy has a thriving interdisciplinary C/L service including psychology, psychiatry, and master’s and doctoral level BCBAs. We are excited that our hospital has invested in expansion of inpatient behavioral health services, including a dedicated med/surg unit. Our pediatric psychology team includes 27 faculty providing C/L and outpatient behavioral health services across numerous pediatric medical subspecialties.
These positions include protected academic time for service, research, and other scholarly activities. Faculty mentoring and hospital-wide educational programs are available for those interested in clinical scholarship (e.g., program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives). This position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience. We are recruiting at all levels of rank and experience.
