Health System Highlights:   As a level 1A health system, our 551 bed Central Arkansas VA is among the nation’s most complex.  Equipped with a full range of medical, surgical, and ancillary support you will provide the highest levels of interdisciplinary care.  Every member of our team works towards one unified goal, to provide the best patient and family care experience possible to all those who have BRAVELY served in our Armed Forces.  Join our 3 current Otolaryngologists, our 1 Midlevel providers, and our clinical care team of over 6 support staff and together lead our ENT program to new and greater heights.

Work Load:

  • 5 x 8 hours shifts or, 4 x10 hour shifts
  • 2-3 days per week in clinic, 10-15 patients per day.
  • 2-3 days per week in the surgical center with 2-4 cases per day
  • Inpatient consult rotations, if needed.
  • 8-10 days per month of very light call coverage. 
  • Support from a full hospitalist team, residents, and fellows

Requirements:

  • At least 1 state active medical license; no revoked, suspended, probation state licensures
  • A degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent allopathic or osteopathic degree from an accredited institution; or evidence of an ECFMG certificate.
  • Completion of Residency Training.
  • Board Eligible in Otolaryngology
  • Selective Service Registration is for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.

  • U.S. Citizenship; in accordance with VA Policy, non-citizens may be considered if no qualified US citizens are selected.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
