Job Description

The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences and The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana University are jointly recruiting for a leader in the area of inclusive excellence to serve as the Vice Chair of Strategic Engagement for Diagnostic Medicine across the two departments. Combined, the two departments have more than 450 faculty, staff, and trainees. Each department works side by side with IU Health radiology and laboratory hospital employees.

The Vice Chair will oversee the development, implementation, and sustainability of initiatives related to (1) inclusion and belonging; (2) evidence-based solutions to health equity; (3) representational diversity; and (4) cultural humility and intellectual diversity that span and align across the two diagnostic departments at IU. Both of the departments have active and productive committees related to this work with numerous initiatives already underway. We seek a visionary leader who is able to assist in further embedding the tenets of inclusive excellence in the departmental culture and to solidify IU as a national leader in these efforts.

The Vice Chair will work with the Department Chair, other Vice Chairs, Division Chiefs, and other leaders within the two department to define the vision for the department’s inclusive excellence initiatives.  The desire is for an individual who is able to broadly think about how these initiatives impact diagnostic medicine across the two departments. In addition, the Vice Chair will partner with the Indiana University School of Medicine Center for Inclusive Excellence and will be a member of a think tank in this area that spans multiple additional departments. The commitment of resources and administrative support through the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and the Indiana University School of Medicine will be commensurate with the programmatic vision of the selected candidate.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an established record in the area of inclusive excellence initiatives at the local and/or national level. Experience should include evidence of building intra- and cross-departmental collaborations and teams. A track record of research and/or scholarship in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including health equity, is also desired. Candidates will have a Doctorate or Terminal degree (e.g., MD, DO, EdD, PhD). Board certification is required, if applicable. Direct prior experience in inclusive excellence initiatives in medicine, in particular diagnostic medicine (Radiology and/or Pathology), is desired but not required.

The Department of Radiology is home to over 165 radiologists, 35 imaging scientists, 70 residents and fellows, and 100 staff. The department has divisions representing each of the subspecialities and radiologic services are provided to 19 Indiana University Health facilities and affiliated partners across the state, as well as Eskenazi Health, a public safety net hospital. In addition, the department has a robust research program and is ranked #1 in the Big10 and #13 of all academic institutions by the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research for NIH funding. The department also supports trainees at all levels, including a required clerkship for 4th year medical students, PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, residents, and clinical fellows.
