RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey’s largest integrated healthcare system, is actively recruiting a board-certified physician for a full-time leadership role as the Vice Chair for Safety in Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ. This pivotal position offers an outstanding opportunity for an experienced physician to lead patient safety initiatives, oversee quality improvement efforts, and drive strategic programs aimed at achieving the highest standards in clinical care and patient outcomes.

As a key leader in the Department of Medicine, the Vice Chair for Safety in Medicine will provide strategic oversight and direction for quality and safety initiatives, collaborating closely with the Chair of the Department of Medicine and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Schissel. This role blends clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, offering a unique opportunity to shape safety protocols while maintaining a strong clinical presence. Position Highlights:

  • Leadership & Oversight: Direct and manage quality and safety initiatives within the Department of Medicine, ensuring optimal patient care and adherence to best practices.
  • Committee Engagement: Take a lead role in multiple Quality and Safety committees, helping to guide hospital-wide improvements and patient safety strategies.
  • Strategic Vision: Develop and implement programs aimed at positioning the hospital as an "A"-rated institution in patient safety.
  • Clinical & Administrative Balance: Serve in a dual capacity, with 50% of the role dedicated to patient safety leadership and 50% devoted to clinical care.
  • Collaboration & Integration: Work closely with hospital leadership, department heads, and community partners to drive safety initiatives and enhance institutional performance.
  • Program Growth: If an Endocrinologist, contribute to the expansion of an in-hospital core of Endocrine faculty to further enhance patient care services.
  • Influential Leadership: Play a central role in shaping the future of patient safety within one of the state’s most prestigious healthcare institutions.
  • Academic & Clinical Impact: Engage in quality improvement projects and educational initiatives that support resident and fellow development.

Position Requirements:

  • Board-Certified Physician in their area of clinical expertise
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in New Jersey
  • Clinical & Leadership Experience: Previous leadership experience is beneficial but not required; candidates should be senior enough to lead the largest clinical department in the hospital.
  • Commitment to Patient Safety & Quality Improvement: Passion for implementing best practices in safety and clinical excellence.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: Ability to multitask effectively, balancing administrative and clinical responsibilities while fostering a culture of safety and collaboration.
