Wake Forest Emergency Providers (WFEP) is excited to offer a unique opportunity for an experienced Emergency Medicine leader to join our team as a Medical Director within a large, regional, non-profit, academic health system. This is a chance to lead a dynamic and committed Emergency Medicine team, while being supported by a network of experienced peers, a strong Executive Director, and a collaborative President.

As the Medical Director, you will have the autonomy to manage your site’s operations, while also benefiting from extensive collaboration with leadership and colleagues. Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

  • Develop and implement clinical strategies that align with the organization’s goals and vision for emergency care.
  • Lead, mentor, and support physicians, advanced practice providers, and other clinical staff in the emergency department.
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical teams and administrative leadership to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous quality improvement within the emergency department.

Clinical Oversight

  • Monitor the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of clinical services in the emergency department.
  • Develop and implement protocols, guidelines, and best practices to ensure evidence-based care and improve patient outcomes.
  • Regularly evaluate clinical performance and implement quality improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Address patient safety concerns, adverse events, and operational challenges promptly and effectively.

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Stay updated on healthcare policy changes, accreditation standards, and relevant laws impacting emergency care.
  • Collaborate with the compliance team to prepare for audits and regulatory reviews.

Operational Management

  • Work with administrative teams to manage budgets, staffing, resources, and operational needs within the emergency department.
  • Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of new providers.
  • Analyze clinical and operational data to optimize workflows and improve patient outcomes.
  • Oversee patient satisfaction initiatives and address patient complaints or concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Community Engagement

  • Represent the organization in community outreach programs and at professional events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including other healthcare organizations, to improve access to emergency care and services.

Affiliated with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist (AHWFB), Wake Forest Emergency Providers is a nationally recognized, 501c3 non-profit, proudly providing health care for all! We are contracted with select, partner organizations to provide staffing for Hospital Emergency Departments, Free Standing Emergency Departments, and Urgent Cares throughout the North Central and Northwest regions of North Carolina.

Atrium Health Lake Norman will be located at the southwest corner of the intersections of Westmoreland Rd. and State Highway 21 in Cornelius, North Carolina. Cornelius is located along Lake Norman in northern Mecklenburg County. The beautiful Piedmont region of North Carolina has a moderate climate with all four seasons and a cost of living well below the national average. The Blue Ridge Mountains and Parkway are a 1-2 hour drive to the north and west, and North Carolina's beaches are close enough to enjoy during long weekends. The region is on an upward trajectory that still maintains its Southern roots and small-town feel. Although the region is traditionally Southern in its friendliness, it has an international vibe with an array of festivals and a wide variety of restaurants and entertainment options.

Atrium Health Lake Norman

Atrium Health Lake Norman will be Atrium Health's newest hospital. The 170,000 square-foot facility will be located in Cornelius, N.C., bringing access to high-quality health care with state-of-the-art-technology to a growing area which is in need of this level of care. The new hospital is expected to open its doors to patients in 2025.

Atrium Health recognizes there is a need for emergency, primary and specialty care due to the tremendous population growth of the area. Services at Atrium Health Lake Norman will include mobile magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT), digital radiography, fluoroscopy, two mobile x-ray units and ultrasound. In addition, there will be onsite laboratory and pharmacy services. The emergency department, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, will have eight treatment rooms and a helipad available on site.
