Job Description:

Will provide clinical anesthesia services while leading the Anesthesiology Clinical Service Line. The leader will ensure the quality, safety, and optimization of anesthesia care within the hospital system and surgery centers. The role requires strong collaboration with hospital, institute, and service line leaders, as well as both independent and employed anesthesia providers.

Will be performed across multiple hospital and surgery center locations, requiring occasional travel within the system. There are on-call responsibilities for clinical anesthesia duties and emergency care.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Clinical
    • Provide clinical anesthesia services as outlined in the Anesthesiologist job description
    • Ensure excellent perioperative care and safe anesthesia practices for surgical patients
    • Work closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe, effective and efficient anesthesia services.
  • Medical Leadership
    • Develop and implement strategies for maintaining and improving the quality of anesthesia care throughout the organization in both the acute care settings and surgery centers.
    • Oversee and standardize anesthesiologist and CRNA practices across the organization ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance.
    • In collaboration with the VPMAs, DOMAs, and other senior leadership, strategize and drive process improvements focused on innovative care delivery and/or operational models designed to improve clinical services, outcomes and patient safety.
    • Serve as a liaison between anesthesia providers (both independent and employed) and hospital leadership to align goals and optimize perioperative processes.
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships between clinical teams, ensuring seamless coordination of care across the system.
    • Lead or contribute to committees related to anesthesia services, patient safety, and clinical operations within the organization.
    • Participate in strategic planning for system-wide perioperative care, focusing on resource allocation, staffing, and process improvements.
  • Medical Staff Development
    • Foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration among all staff involved in the anesthesia care process.
    • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate anesthesiologists and CRNAs within the system, providing leadership and guidance on clinical and operational matters.
    • Promote professional development and continuing education for all members of the anesthesia team, ensuring a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
    • Engage in regular reviews of the system’s anesthesia services to ensure financial viability and operational efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral/PH.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine
  • Completed a residency program as applicable to their clinical specialty
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in acute care
  • 5+ years of demonstrated leadership experience as a medical director, medical staff officer or medical management


Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 3 - Multisource required within 180 Days
  • PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Multisource required depending on business unit upon hire
  • Board Certification in specialty that this role is leading required upon hire


Physical Demands

  • Medium Work*:

Pay Range

Pay Range: $500,000 to $600,000 per year

The pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable).
