The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is seeking a multifaceted and enthusiastic leader for the role of Director of Cytopathology for Temple University Hospital – Health Science Campus, Chestnut Hill Hospital and Women’s and Families Hospital.

The Director will manage daily activities in cytopathology and workflow (including rapid cytology assessments/implementation of tele-cytology, fine needle aspiration clinic), review and approval of SOP for cytopathology, review of regulatory CAP checklist and assure compliance with CAP standats, oversee proficiency testing, refine and monitor quality management plan, work with clinical colleagues for cytopathology related questions.

Cytopathology division handles around four thousands of specimens (predominantly non-GYN) per year. It is staffed by five faculty. It is a home for ACGME accredited cytopathology fellowship. The service has now incorporated consistent utilization of rapid onsite specimen adequacy performed via tele-cytology by cytopathologists, allowing for better specimen triaging including collection of samples for performing molecular testing on limited samples and flow cytometry to rule in/out lymphomas.

Temple University Hospital (TUH) Clinical Laboratories perform 3.3 million laboratory tests per year. TUH’s clinical laboratories encompass 10 divisions, led by industry leading MD or PhD clinical scientist who bring a depth of clinical experience, industry/academic certifications and unique expertise who rival many larger organizations. TUH’s Anatomic pathology divisions include Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Immunohistochemistry, Autopsy, Oral Pathology and Electron Microscopy This position will report to Yuri Persidsky, MD, PhD, Professor, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Pathologist-in-Chief, TUHS.

Candidate Minimum Qualifications
• MD, DO, MD/PhD or foreign equivalent
• Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology
• Academic credentials for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
• 5 years of experience providing direction, oversight and development of clinical laboratories within a large university/academic hospital.
• Ability to orchestrate change in a multilevel academic/medical setting using team building, alliances, data and ability to influence.
• Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and presentation
• Unrestricted medical license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to employment.
