The Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at The University of Vermont Health Network invites applications from board-eligible or board-certified applicants for a position as an adult rheumatologist at Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY. The selected candidate will be an MD or MD plus PhD with specialty training and expertise in adult rheumatology. Priority will be given to persons who have experience with providing rheumatology clinical services in a university and community setting.  Participation in Quality Improvement is required.  Our division is a busy and collegial program that provides specialty rheumatologic clinical services including point of care musculoskeletal ultrasound to a large population in Vermont and upstate New York.  We have a successful adult rheumatology fellowship program and are involved in teaching rheumatology to all health care providers in the community, including medical students at The Robert Larner M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, and trainees and faculty at UVM Medical Center and UVM Health Network partners throughout the region. We also have a robust research program that includes clinical and translational research related to immunology, inflammatory arthritis, and vasculitis.

CVPH is a 300-bed community hospital located in the northeastern region of New York State serving a catchment area of approximately 170,000. The facility includes a 14-bed state-of-the-art critical care unit and 9 state-of-the-arts OR’s. The typical daily census is approximately 250 (approximately 130 acute/private beds). We have an average of 25 admissions and 775 outpatients per day. We have over 230 physicians on the Medical Staff representing many sub-specialties. On average CVPH has 9,400 admissions, 825 births, 46,000 emergency room (Level 3 Trauma Center) visits and 19,000 surgical procedures.  CVPH is JCAHO accredited and recognized by Healthgrades as a Top 100 Hospital for Cardiac Care.

Our state of the art critical care unit has 14-beds, the Progressive Care Unit has 12 beds and our three cath labs have digital equipment. We have 9 state-of-the-arts OR’s, a 27-room Emergency Department and newly constructed interventional radiology suites. Our Ambulatory Surgery Center has 4 OR’s and 4 endoscopy suites. The EMR network wide in both the clinic and inpatient settings is EPIC.  

Now more than ever, CVPH is committed to creating a learning environment to provide a comprehensive and well-rounded medical training experience. Our affiliation with the University of Vermont Medical Center, a level I trauma center located 1 hour away, has helped us to establish a community-based Family Medicine Residency. In addition, we have Emergency Medicine residents and medical students from UVM doing clinical rotations at CVPH.
