The Salem VA Medical Center has an opening for an outpatient/inpatient psychiatrist. On call duties in Salem would be about 1 in 20 day), and this is mostly from home with a PA or resident in-house. This half-time outpatient and half-time inpatient position includes the assessment and treatment of general adult mental health patients to include psychopharmacology. The ability to prescribe clozapine and/or Suboxone is a plus, but not required.
Duties
We are expected to deliver high quality patient care that is timely, patient-centered, recovery oriented as appropriate, and based on the best available research evidence and practice guidelines. This also is added to by one's clinical judgment and experience when the evidence does not answer the complex clinical questions with which we are faced. We are also all expected to follow the ethical standards of the VA and our licensing bodies.
We are a teaching institution at the main site, so supervising students and residents and teaching lectures are possible at the main site. Whenever clinical work is done, it is expected that we appropriately document that clinical work in a progress note and do an accompanying encounter.
In outpatient settings, a full suicide assessment is expected at the first meeting with the patient and at any time there is a problematic change in the Veteran's clinical condition.
