Position Overview

As a Physician Advisor (PA), you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Physician Advisor program for University Hospitals. Reporting to the System PA Lead, you will:

  • Develop and implement training programs to sustain adherence to clinical documentation standards.
  • Ensure appropriate care levels, settings, and accurate patient documentation to reflect severity of illness, risk of mortality, and reimbursement alignment.
  • Act as a liaison between care teams, medical staff, third-party payers, and leadership to coordinate clinical reviews, discuss cases, and recommend appropriate levels of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation to attending physicians on hospitalization appropriateness, resource utilization, and documentation accuracy.
  • Support regulatory compliance and technical billing through expertise in state, federal, and coding guidelines.
  • Collaborate across teams to improve:
    • Patient and family experiences.
    • Documentation accuracy and reimbursement processes.
    • Inpatient throughput efficiency from admission to discharge.
  • Build strong relationships with leadership, staff, and providers to reduce denials and enhance reimbursement.

Qualifications

Education

  • M.D. required

Preferred Credentials

  • Membership with the American College of Physician Advisors (ACPA) is a plus.

Experience & Skills

  • Preferred: Hospitalist experience with a solid foundation in utilization management, clinical documentation integrity, quality improvement, patient safety, and hospital operations.
  • Proficiency with EMRs, MCG, InterQual criteria, and ICD-10 coding guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to foster collaboration with medical staff and leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities.
