Indiana University Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Genetic Counselor to join our team! This role is integral in providing genetic counseling services to patients and families seeking information about inherited conditions, genetic testing and genetic counseling. Our Medical and Molecular Genetics team is a team-oriented environment focused on research, education, diagnosis and management of genetic and metabolic conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Provide genetic counseling and testing for patients and families including identifying, ordering and coordinating genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies, as appropriate for the genetic assessment.
- Integrate genetic laboratory test results and other diagnostic studies with personal and family medical history to assess and communicate genetic risk factors and clinical implications.
- Educate other healthcare professionals, patients and families about genetic conditions and hereditary disorders, treatment options, risk factors and any available community resources.
- Refer patients to specialists when necessary
- May teach or oversee genetic counseling students
- Ensure compliance with ethical, legal and regulatory guidelines related to genetic testing, patient confidentiality and informed consent.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling or Medical Genetics
- Required to reside in the state of Indiana
- Prefer clinical genetic counseling experience, but will consider new grads
- Required to maintain a current Genetic Counselor's license in the state of Indiana
- Requires Board Certification by ABMG/ABGC within 1 year of employment
- Required basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
