Overview

Johnson Memorial Health, in Franklin, Indiana, is looking for an outstanding provider for our brand-new behavioral unit opening up this year. The Medical Director reviews and implements patient treatment plans with the treatment team; reviews patient medical records, participates in hospital meetings and on committees; representing the Program with internal and external key stakeholders such as providers, regulatory bodies, etc.; directing the inclusion of behavioral health expertise at all levels of the Program and throughout the client hospital; and accountability for establishing and meeting utilization goals. Ensures services are provided in accordance with standards and regulations set forth by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO), Medicare, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).  In addition,

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work-

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are subject to the needs of the Program which operates on a 24 hour; seven days a week basis.  Please refer to Program or Hospital attendance policy for additional direction on shifts, holidays and attendance.

Work Environment-

NPs work in close contact with patients who have moderate to severe psychiatric concerns and/or behavioral issues.  There is the possibility the NP could be exposed to violent behavior from patients and/or behavioral issues as part of their daily duties.

This role routinely uses medical equipment including, but not limited to needles, medicines; and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job.

Essential Core Functions:

  • Assess and complete patient diagnoses, treatment, education and referrals in accordance with Hospital policies
  • Coordinates patient care services and activities designed to increase patient census and control cost.
  • Order and interpret medical laboratory and psychological tests to determine a patient’s physical and mental state
  • Review and amend patient medical histories
  • Counsel patients and family on preventative care
  • Perform treatment intervention medication orders, administration and medical treatment
  • Medication reconciliation
  • Assist in medical emergencies
  • Work with treatment team in admitting and discharging patients to and from the Program
  • Perform as part of the treatment team in planning, coordinating and implementing the direct care of patients
  • Conduct physical exams of the patient during admission and attend to basic medical needs/issues; work with hospitalists to manage more complicated medical conditions
  • Conduct rounds on patients
  • Provide direction and support to clinical staff
  • Ensure optimal patient care
  • Appear in court proceedings as necessary
  • Assist Program leadership in assessing, creating and implementing clinical and provider procedures
  • Follow voluntary and involuntary procedure/process
  • Interpret the clinical needs of the patient to nonclinical staff assigned to the patient
  • Provide telemedicine on-call coverage utilizing tele psychiatry and patient round psychiatric services for Client’s psychiatric program. Utilize tele psychiatry and patient round tele psych
  • Provide on-call services on a twenty-four (24) hour basis at such times as set forth on a service schedule
  • Participate as a provider in the Medicare and Medical Assistance programs such other third-party payment programs as Horizon or Hospital may require
  • Insure patient dignity and respect patient values
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, families and friends
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality; and protects operations by keeping patient and program information confidential
  • Operate within ethical standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, and outside health and social agencies.
  • Complete all required documentation relevant to patients in a timely, efficient manner. This includes but is not limited to

  • Adhere to Hospital’s Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations and Policies & Procedures
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and regulatory standards
  • As needed, and using approved methods, assist in safely placing patients in seclusion or restraints; observe suicide/seclusion precautions; including physical requirements for physical holds and safe transport of patients
  • Maintain continuity among the clinical team by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to safety standards; infection-control policies and protocols; medication administration and storage procedures; and controlled substance regulations
  • Use hygienic practices and teach patient hygienic practices
  • Complete all required staff competencies per program regulations in a timely manner
  • Renew licenses and certifications in a timely manner
  • Participate in individual, group, and family psychotherapy and educational seminars as appropriate
  • Ensure operations of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; calling for repairs; and evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Provide feedback to supervisor on ongoing basis in regard to concerns, improvements, changes, etc.

Job Specifications:

Education, Certification/Licensure, and/or Experience

  1. Doctoral Degree with a current, active, valid unrestricted state license
  2. Board certified Psychiatrist highly preferred
  3. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university (two years of post-graduate education after completing a four-year degree).
  4. Maintain a current federal Drug Enforcement Agency license
  5. Not be a Sanctioned Provider
  6. Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in behavioral healthcare
  7. Minimum five (5) years in hospital administration
  8. Knowledge of state and federal health insurance regulations
  9. Previous experience in behavioral health working with geriatric, adult and/or adolescent populations
  10. Willing and able to obtain appropriate credentials and privileges required to provide services to the client Hospital

Hospital Description

Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) is county-owned and has served the citizens of Johnson County immediately south of Indianapolis since 1947. With 125 staffed beds the hospital has a number of specialty programs. Among them are a comprehensive cancer services, breast center, peripheral vascular lab, Interventional radiology, cardiovascular testing center, sleep center, wound care center, diabetes care program, acute rehabilitation center, spine surgery, orthopedic and sports medicine services, ENT services, critical and progressive care units, and a renal dialysis service on the JMH campus.

Johnson County’s projected population is 148,000. Over the last decade it has consistently been the 3rd or 4th fastest growing county in the state of Indiana. Franklin is located about 25 miles south of downtown Indianapolis, making trips into Indianapolis for dining, sporting or cultural events an easy drive of less than 30 minutes. Access to Indianapolis International Airport is a 30-to-45-minute commute, depending on your location in Johnson County.
