Position Summary: The Express Care Physician provides immediate, high-quality, and patient-centered care in a fast-paced urgent care environment. This role involves examining and treating episodic illnesses, minor injuries, and work-related health problems as well as performing specialized occupation health exams (including Department of Transportation (DOT) and Sheriff Standard fitness for duty exams). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling a wide range of acute conditions, injuries and illnesses and a thorough understanding of occupational health requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Conduct thorough assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and treat acute medical conditions, injuries, and illnesses.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans and follow-up care.
- Emergency Response:
- Provide urgent medical care for non-life-threatening emergencies.
- Perform minor procedures as needed, such as suturing, splinting, and wound care.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with nursing staff, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
- Consult with specialists when necessary and make appropriate referrals.
- Documentation:
- Accurately document patient encounters, including medical history, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care, in electronic health records (EHR) in a timely manner.
- Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment options, and preventive care.
- Provide clear instructions for follow-up care and management.
- Quality and Compliance:
- Adhere to clinical guidelines and protocols to ensure high-quality patient care. Comply with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and organizational policies.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with medical advancements, best practices, and continuing education requirements.
- Participate in professional organizations and conferences relevant to primary care.
Qualifications:
- Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Licensure: Current, unrestricted medical license in NC or eligibility for licensure.
- Board certification: Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine is preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or a similar fast-paced clinical setting is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical skills with the ability to diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make quick, informed decisions.
- Proficiency with EHR systems and basic computer applications.
- Certifications: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications required.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: The position is based in an express care clinic setting, which may involve exposure to a range of patient conditions and potential for high patient volume.
- Hours: This is a full-time position with a typical workweek of approximately 40 hours. The practice is open Monday through Friday (7:30 am-6:00 pm) and Saturday (8:00 am-2:00 pm). The physician's schedule includes both clinical and administrative time, with occasional weekend coverage as needed.
