The University of Miami Health System is seeking a dedicated Assistant Professor of Pediatrics to join the Child Protection Team (CPT). This Florida-mandated program, in collaboration with the Department of Children and Families (DCF), provides a coordinated interdisciplinary approach for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of child maltreatment cases. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact the lives of children and families through compassionate care, expert consultation, and public outreach.

Location & Travel:
The primary location will be the Desai Sethi Medical Center, with travel required to the CPT South Office at UHealth South Specialty Clinic and other locations in Monroe County.


Key Responsibilities

  • Medical Examinations & Consultations: Conduct forensic medical examinations and consultations for children referred with suspected maltreatment (abuse and/or neglect).
  • Case Triage: Work with CPT case coordinators to assess cases referred by DCF, law enforcement, or medical providers.
  • Physical Examinations: Perform comprehensive physical exams, including sexual abuse examinations with photographic documentation as needed.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays, for emergency consultations and exams.
  • Collaboration: Work with psychologists to identify behavioral concerns and diagnoses; arrange outpatient studies or consults as necessary.
  • Community Engagement: Conduct community outreach, in-service training, and provide educational support to stakeholders.
  • Legal Testimony: Provide expert testimony in court, as required, and participate in pre-filing and pre-trial conferences.
  • Professional Development: Stay current on child maltreatment literature, Florida statutes, and DCF/DOH regulations to address the medical and psychological needs of foster children.

Desired Qualifications

  • Education: M.D. or D.O. required.
  • Board Certification: Board-eligible or Board-certified in Pediatrics.
  • Experience: Proven experience in pediatric clinical care, with a focus on child protection or similar fields.

The Child Protection Team is a state-mandated program that assists the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in investigating suspected child maltreatment cases. This interdisciplinary team is essential to the well-being of vulnerable children across Florida, providing evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment with a compassionate approach.
