The University of Miami Health System is seeking a dedicated Staff Physician in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This role involves direct patient care with a primary focus on surgical pathology across UMH, JMH, SCCC, and satellite locations.

Requirements:

  • Education: M.D. or D.O., Board Certified/Eligible in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Licensure: Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in Florida.

Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in Anatomic Pathology.
  • Skilled in quality assurance processes within a team-based model.
  • Familiarity with JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA standards and regulations.
  • Capable of independent work, making reliable diagnostic recommendations.
  • Knowledge of hospital policies related to hazardous materials and biohazard precautions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster communication and collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

Patient Care Services:

  • Provide care at UMH, JMH, SCCC, and affiliated satellite locations.
  • Primarily focused on surgical pathology.
  • Responsibilities include gross description, dissection, tissue sampling, microscopic examination, and reporting.

Specific Duties:

  • Conduct Frozen Section and Rapid On-Site diagnoses (as applicable).
  • Perform and report on autopsies (when required).
  • Participate in 24-hour call coverage based on divisional assignment.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary tumor boards and site disease group meetings.

Education & Research:

  • Mentor and teach pathology residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Engage in collaborative research across the Medical Center.
  • Seek funding through sponsored programs, grants, and contracts.

Quality and Compliance:

  • Uphold standards for JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.
  • Participate in daily quality assurance activities and departmental committees.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure HIPAA compliance.

Departmental Participation:

  • Attend and contribute to departmental meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Support the Department’s commitment to excellence in patient care and academic distinction.
