Telehealth Hospitalist/Nocturnist opportunity

The VISN 8 Sunshine Healthcare Network, is recruiting for a Hospital/Nocturnist. The position utilizes a variety of telehealth modalities to deliver urgent care services to patients throughout VISN 8 as part of Clinical Contact Center.The position utilizes a variety of telehealth modalities to deliver urgent care services to patients throughout VISN 8 as part of Clinical Resource Hub. The work of this position involves a combination of telehealth skills and urgent care clinical services, both of which require the exercise of mature professional judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of professional abilities duties consist of but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide urgent care via telephone or video and work collaboratively with other professionals in the Clinical Contact Center to support first contact resolution.
  • Recieve referrals and provide direction for assessment, medical care, and follow-up, as appropriate to Clinical Contact Center nurse triage staff.
  • Perform histories and physical examinations on patients. History and physical examinations will mostly use rely on the use of Telehealth technology.
  • Screen patients to determine need for further care.
  • Conduct handoff for direct referral to VISN 8 medical center for emergent or urgent medical.
  • Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice and order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests and imaging. Consults may also need to be ordered.
  • Provide education and counseling of patients and families as it relates to medical conditions, follow-up care and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Provide clinically appropriate follow-up care for previously evaluated patients based on results of lab work and imaging.
  • Minimal administrative work, but the physician will be required to attend staff meetings, team meetings, some committee meetings and complete some peer review evaluations.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
