Mission or Goal of Unit: Our mission is to provide unparalleled patient care, educate and train emerging leaders in Emergency Medicine and set a national standard for quality and safety metrics by responding to the changing needs of emergency healthcare through innovative research and systems development.
Chief Purpose of this position: We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our dynamic academic Emergency Medicine team in the Division of Emergency Medical Services. The successful candidate will contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient care, innovative research, and high-quality education in emergency medicine. The faculty member will work at VCU Medical Center, which is a largely underserved, Level 1 Trauma Center and tertiary referral center seeing over 100,000 patients per year and its community sites. The department is nationally recognized for innovative management of chest pain, stroke, major trauma, and high acuity medical cases. The department is also heavily involved in leadership of both ground and air medical services and a number of volunteer EMS agencies in the region. In addition, the Virginia Poison Center is a division component of this department.
The VCU Department of Emergency Medicine also provides coverage for a free-standing Emergency Department serving the rural patient community of New Kent, Virginia, which sees over 15,000 patients per year and community hospitals in Tappahannock, Virginia and South Hill, Virginia which see 20,000 patients per year and 25,000 patients per year, respectively.
Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Emergency Medicine houses an Emergency Medicine 3-year residency program. We also partner with the Air Force and train their residents as well. We are one of only 13 programs to house a combined Emergency Medicine-Internal Medicine residency program with an additional 2 residents per year. Finally, the Department offers six fellowship programs including a one year Emergency Medical Services Fellowship.
Faculty may be recruited at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor commensurate with experience.
