The University of Iowa, Department of Psychiatry, is seeking faculty for a position as an Inpatient Psychiatrist. This is a Clinician Scholar appointment, a non-tenure clinical track position, available at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications.
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa has a rich history and continues to grow with significant expansions in faculty and innovative partnerships, such as those with the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. The department’s clinical services have been enhanced with the development of new services such as the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) and the Neurobehavioral Specialty Unit (NBSU), a 4-bed intensive care unit for our most complex patients with challenging behaviors. We have a total of 88 inpatient beds across 6 units, including:
In addition, the department has partnered with Emergency Medicine to staff a mental health services team in the emergency room, and in Fall 2025, we will open a new 12-bed section of the ER dedicated to psychiatric patients. Our short-stay CSU will expand in Fall 2024 from 12 to 16 beds, with 5 additional beds for adolescents.
The department also offers vibrant outpatient services, including the Interventional Psychiatry Service (ECT, TMS, ketamine, esketamine) and a research protocol in psychedelic medicine. Our Addictions Recovery Collaborative and specialty clinics, such as Women’s Wellness, Neuropsychiatry, and Huntington’s Disease, further expand our care offerings.
