Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Completes admission workup and ongoing accurate daily assignments. Collaborates with and communicates to the attending neonatologist for all assignments to include History and Physical (H&P), gestational age assessment and physical assessment of all body systems along with the plan of care as developed by and adjusted in collaboration with the attending neonatologist on all assigned admissions.
  • Applies all procedural and universal protocol policies to ensure patient safety and positive clinical outcomes.
  • Acts as a primary communicator for medical team from time of admission and when condition or plan of care changes. Incorporates all members of the health care team, including staff nurses, discharge planners, respiratory therapists, families, social services and consulting physicians when developing plan of care. Documents all outcomes for appropriate recommendations leading to a smooth and timely transition of patient to home/community.
  • Promotes relationship and understanding by communicating effectively with all individuals, including peers, using language and tone appropriate to the audience and the situation.
  • Represents themselves and SSM/Ministry by demonstrating leadership, involvement in education, research and instruction to improve other's knowledge base for current neonatal care.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION

  • Completion of a formal post-basic education program from or formally affiliated with an accredited college, university or hospital (Before July 1, 1998) or a graduate degree from an accredited college or university (After July 1, 1998) with a concentration in the appropriate advanced practice nursing clinical specialty area.
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NCC) certification issued by the National Certification Corporation (NCC)
  • Current or compact RN license in appropriate state
  • Appropriate APRN license or document of recognition in appropriate state
