Trauma and Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA)

The Section of General Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join an established and collaborative group on the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery team.
The APP will be dedicated to inpatient care on the high-volume Trauma & Acute Care Surgery service, which is comprised of trauma and emergency general surgery patients. They will work collaboratively with a team of advanced practitioners dedicated to the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery service. As such, candidates should have a strong interest in the care of injured and acutely ill general surgical patients.
This position is grounded in the multidisciplinary team approach to the management of patients on the general medical floor, step-down units, and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The APP has the advantage of following the patient through all phases of their hospitalization. Daily responsibilities include oversight of acutely ill trauma and surgery patients, including, but not limited to, evaluation of patients on the inpatient units and the trauma bay, creation and execution of daily care plans, coordination of care with consultant services, and discharge planning and coordination. The Trauma & Acute Care Surgery APP works closely with nursing, consulting services, general surgery residents, rehab services, case management, and attending physicians. The APP will maintain a patient and family-centered focus throughout the hospital course. This makes the APP role one that includes management of complex social situations and planning for safe, successful hospital discharges.
Educational opportunities abound in this Level I Trauma Center, including biweekly Advanced Practice Providers lecture series, monthly Emergency Medicine lecture series, weekly Morbidity & Mortality conference, and Surgery Grand Rounds. Daily rounds include the opportunity for learning and teaching with attending physicians and resident physicians.
Minimum Education & Experience:
- 2 years of advanced practice provider experience preferred
- New graduates considered with EMS background, educational exposure to critical care, trauma, or surgical specialties
- Experience with inpatient medicine or surgical service preferred
- ACLS certification required
- Current (or eligible) certification to practice as a PA or APRN in NH
- Successful completion of an approved PA/APRN program. Master's degree required.
