Job Description

The Section of Neurosurgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH seeks a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP - Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner) to join an established and collaborative group on the inpatient neurosurgery team. The Neurosurgery APP is dedicated to inpatient care for primary neurosurgery patients and consults from all neurosurgical subspecialties. They will provide assessments of physical and psychosocial status, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests, interpretation of data, implementation of therapeutic plans, and follow-through as needed. This position will care for adults and pediatric patients and should have the experience and ability to handle bedside procedures. Our designated Neurocritical Care Unit and new patient pavilion allows providers access to state-of-the-art resources for high-quality patient care. The APP will also provide health education and counseling to patients and/or family members, assist with integrating care by other providers, and make appropriate referrals. Educational opportunities abound in this Level I Trauma Center, including biweekly Advanced Practice Providers lecture series, weekly Neurosurgery conferences, and Surgery Grand Rounds. Daily rounds include the opportunity for learning and teaching with attending physicians and resident physicians. Position Highlights:
  • Adult and pediatric inpatient care
  • Three 13-hour shifts/week
  • OR time available, but not required
  • Opportunity for mentorship and advancement to a leadership role
  • Academic appointment at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College
Minimum Education & Experience:
  • 2-4 years of advanced practice provider experience required
  • Experience with neuroscience or ICU preferred
  • Academic medical center experience preferred
  • BLS & ACLS certification required
  • Surgical first-assist license for those interested in OR time
  • Current (or eligible) certification to practice as a PA or APRN in NH
  • Successful completion of an approved PA/APRN program. Master's degree required.
