We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Physician to provide comprehensive primary care services in an outpatient setting. This role encompasses initial patient evaluations, stabilization, and triage, as well as consultation, referral management, and maintenance of electronic medical records.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care, including face-to-face and telehealth consultations.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, diagnose illnesses, and develop treatment plans.
  • Manage patient referrals, ensuring appropriate follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and emergency coverage.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in various clinical areas, including mental health, TeleHealth, and Compensation & Pension (C&P).
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain clinical competency.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or similar specialty.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to patient care and satisfaction.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records systems.
  • BLS/CPR certification required, ACLS and OORAM preferred.

About Our Facility

The West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) is a 95-authorized bed (55 acute and 40 extended care) medical center, which serves 58,000 veterans in an area spanning 33 counties in West Texas and New Mexico. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education. Comprehensive outpatient health care is provided in areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, oncology, and dentistry. Inpatient care is provided in medicine and extended care, with referrals to other VISN 18 facilities and community. Care is provided at the parent facility in Big Spring, Texas and through six Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

The facility is located in Big Spring, Texas, with the ambience and neighborly charm of a small western town. We are conveniently and centrally located to four larger cities (San Angelo, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, and Abilene). In addition to the urgent care clinic, we provide primary medical and surgical care, along with community living, mental health, and other extended outpatient services for veterans residing in West Texas and parts of New Mexico. Care is delivered through the Big Spring VA Medical Center and through six community based outpatient clinics. Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel

  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
