Carle Health is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and strategic clinical leader with a proven track record to oversee and advance our established Inpatient Adult Medicine service line at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. The Medical Director of Inpatient Adult Medicine is responsible for ensuring that Carle Foundation Hospital’s clinical programs provide coordinated, efficient, high-quality care to our patients.
The Medical Director of Inpatient Adult Medicine, in partnership with their vice president administrative dyad, is responsible for the direction and oversight of all medical operations and has clinical and operational accountability for the service line’s performance and quality metrics.

Summary of key duties and responsibilities:
- Maintain a clinical practice with allocated time to help lead/develop the Inpatient Adult Medicine division which includes the Adult Hospitalists and Adult Critical Care teams.
- While serving as a member of the senior leadership team, this individual will play a key role in leading organizational culture change to align behavior and standards of care at Carle Health to be in alignment with our mission to provide high quality health services throughout the region.
- Play an essential role in the setting of policy and protocols to build an expanded, higher-volume, technically sophisticated and efficient system of care that aligns with the vision of Carle Health.
- Work collaboratively with the Dyad Partners in establishing and accomplishing departmental goals and objectives in alignment with the Strategic Pillars and values of the organization.
- Participate in change initiatives to continuously improve patient care and the service delivery model.
- Monitor/help run daily operations and consistently work to improve clinical quality and the efficient delivery of care and will be dedicated to establishing and evaluating performance expectations, which provide for the highest quality patient care and consistency in clinical care standards, driven by patient safety requirements and clinical outcomes monitoring.
- Play a supervisory role by establishing and communicating expectations for performance and behaviors to the Adult Hospitalist and Adult ICU teams.
- Proactively share best practices related to workflows, continuing education, engagement and patient satisfaction with fellow leaders and providers.
- Actively participate in the recruitment of new professional staff team members as well as the onboarding and off boarding process to ensure positive impressions of Carle are developed and/or maintained.
- Directs the development of appropriate outreach programs to enhance the delivery of care in the region. Responsible for working with outreach physicians to establish and maintain programs.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of medicine (MD or DO) and completed residency required.
- Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Current, valid state medical license.
- Experience working as a physician leader within an integrated delivery system with a large, employed physician group preferred. Level I trauma center experience ideal.
