Job Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to be involved with developing nutritional care plans, dietetic counseling and nutritional assessments. The Dietitian III must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Job Duties:
Interviews patients with confirmation of diet orders
Discusses Dietary needs and eating habits with the patient and gives pertinent information to physicians and nurses
Formulates diets for patients with modified diets
Changes diets as a result of changes in prescription, patients' reaction, and food preferences
Investigates patient complaints on food served and devises means of increasing patient food intake; and reviews medical records and documents nutritional assessment including summary of diet history and/or nutritional problems and goals relating to patients' condition or treatment.
Participates in inter-disciplinary team care conferences.
Complies with OBRA rules and regulations regarding resident assessment and screening information.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a course of study approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, including the successful completion of a dietetic internship, or other equivalent clinical component approved by the Academy.
Experience Requirement:
Applicants must have had progressively responsible professional dietetic or nutrition experience of the kind and quantity described in the following table:
Specialized Experience: One Year (1 year) of Professional dietetic or nutrition experience that provided the applicant with a full professional understanding of the theories of dietetic therapy and their application in the maintenance, improvement and/or recovery of good health.
For levels III and higher, at least one (1) year of experience must have been comparable to the next lower level in this series.
Registration Requirement:
For Dietitian III level and above: Applicants must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Substitutions Allowed:
Substitution of Education for Experience: Possession of a master's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics or institutional food management may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
