The Public Health Hygienist provides dental health education and quality services in the areas of patient care, laboratory duties and administrative support. Hygienists maintain independent professional responsibility for patient care while working to meet agency goals within department guidelines as administered by the Dental Program Director. The Hygienist affects the efficiency and productivity of patient flow through timely, accurate and professional preparation of patients and patient information, including taking and processing x-rays. The Hygienist in this position may provide services in a fixed clinic, mobile dental facility or in a community-based setting.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality dental treatment including prophylaxis, debridement, scaling & root planing, sealants, and fluoride
Ensure accuracy and efficiency with patient charting
Deliver personalized dental health education to patients
Provide dental care in school-based settings to reach children who otherwise would not receive care
Attend outreach events and educate community on oral health education
Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program. North Carolina Dental Hygiene License. Current CPR certification. Two years of experience preferred.

Ability to organize and prioritize workload while meeting deadlines
Possess ability to work as an effective team member, and exercise sound judgement
Must be flexible enough to shift priorities
Possess basic computer and word processing skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal work relationships
