JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, the ICU Nurse Manager oversees the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), planning, delegating, directing, coordinating, and evaluating nursing care, while leading the ICU personnel to provide quality clinical care and excellent patient experiences. The Manager is responsible for managing the daily functions of the unit, including staffing, budget management, and clinical outcomes. The manager may, at times, perform direct patient care duties.
Job Specific:
Responsible for the overall effective and efficient functioning of the department including long-term and short-term planning (EF).
Maintains open lines of communication with hospital departments, units, and key stakeholders of the overall quality, safety, and patient experience of the ICU. (EF).
Demonstrates effective leadership of the department by utilizing appropriate professional and management skills. (EF)
Responsible for staff par levels, scheduling, and timekeeping for the unit. (EF)
Responsible for nursing and nursing support personnel recruitment, retention, orientation, education, evaluation, promotion, and termination within the unit. (EF)
Evaluates staff competency and recommends education and training to ensure quality care. (EF)
Responsible for planning and recommending operating and capital expenditure budgets for the unit and manages the spending within those approved budgets. (EF)
Responsible for ensuring appropriate purchasing, inventory, and supply functions of the unit. (EF)
Participates in or delegates a participant in hospital committee activities.
Assists with patient care when necessary and abides by scope of practice.
Ensures provision of quality patient care through nursing process (EF)
Implements and monitors appropriate management systems including data collection, continuous quality improvement, transport, sepsis control, etc., and maintains the appropriate records. (EF)
Develops and ensures dissemination of unit specific and hospital wide policies and procedures.
Ensures adherence to safety and infection control programs within the unit. (EF)
Actively participates in the unit's performance improvement initiatives. (EF)
Develops and implements strategies that meet quality and patient experience metrics (EF)
Participates in professional development of self and staff to enhance patient-focused nursing practice, age, and population-specific to the nursing unit.
Hospital:
Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; *Stroke Inservice annually
Preferred: BSN or MSN
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required: Five (5) years of nursing experience and three to five (3-5) years of supervisory experience
Preferred: Previous ICU RN experience
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Required: Strong clinical, written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment.
Preferred: Effective leadership, management, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Required: Unencumbered Texas Nursing License; CPR; ACLS (recert biennially); Stroke Certification 90 days from date of hire
Preferred: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification
