Position Summary

Responsible for administering diagnostic and habilitative/ rehabilitative services to patients referred for services and maintaining records pertinent to such services. Observes, evaluates and documents diagnostic and treatment effects. Consults with supervisor on all pertinent matters for program and professional development (i.e. research projects, expansion of programs, record keeping, policies and procedures, etc.). Will also be involved in team dynamics and participate in interdisciplinary activities when appropriate.

Responsibilities

Evaluates speech language cognitive and swallowing skills. The caseload of a Speech Language Pathologist I will consist of patients with disorders of the following: Language, Phonology/articulation, Fluency, Resonance, Voice, Swallowing, Alternative/Augmentative Methods of Communication. Direct treatment provision for Speech, Language, Cognitive, Voice, Motor Speech, Alternative methods of communication and Swallowing Disorders.

Advanced clinical skills are being developed in at least one of the following areas: Aphasia, Motor Speech Disorders, Cognitive Communicative Disorders, Dysphagia, Augmentative Communication devices (including devices for trach and ventilator patients) and/or voice (including laryngectomy and developmental speech/language disorders), Developmental speech, language, swallowing and/or feeding disorders
Completes documentation requirements promptly, accurately and thoroughly according to policies. Ensuring that adequate supplies/equipment are properly maintained. Reports malfunctioning equipment and requests supplies or service as necessary. Communicates effectively and appropriately with others through verbal, written, and nonverbal means
Seeks education opportunities and attends workshops/seminars to meet learning objectives. Applies knowledge gained to clinical practice and maintains a record of participation in all professional activities. Maintenance of current knowledge of Speech Language Pathology practices/evidence as they pertain to the patient population served
Responsible for the safety of patients assigned during provision of direct care and during clinical decision making. Aware of overall safety/best practice guidelines within the hospital. Reports unsafe conditions or actions to be corrected to the appropriate party.
Responsible for attendance at program/service line staff meetings. Active participation in establishment of program/discipline goals and objectives, establishment of program/discipline budget, staff utilization, space allocation, quality improvement, program development, inservice training, assisting and developing/revising policies and procedures.
Conforming to the standard operating procedures established for the program/discipline, rehabilitation services, and the hospital. Abides by ASHA code ethics and NC Licensure Law

Minimum Requirements

Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology OR Master's degree in Communication Science and Disorders is required.

Less than three years of licensure

Current Speech Language Pathology License issued by NCBOESLPA is required.

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology awarded by ASHA is required, or must be obtained within one year of hire.
