COMMUNITY INFORMATION

Wahpeton, North Dakota is located in Richland County in southeastern North Dakota.  Wahpeton and her sister city Breckenridge, Minnesota are set near the confluence of the Bois de Sioux and the Otter Tail rivers which forms the 'Red River of the North'.  Located just a few miles from the lakes country of west-central Minnesota as well as the glacial lakes area of South Dakota, Wahpeton is a great place to live and work.  The diverse economy of Wahpeton  includes agricultural corporations such as Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative, a sugar processing plant and Cargill, a corn processing plant, as well as manufacturers such as Woodcraft Industries and WCCO Belting.

The city of Wahpeton with a population of 8500 serves as the Richland County seat.  The community features excellent public and private schools as well as the North Dakota State College of Science.  The area attracts outdoorsmen and hunters due to its location in the midst of the Central Flyway for migratory waterfowl.  Other features of the city include the Chahinkapa Zoo and the Bois de Sioux Golf Course, Richland County Historical Society Museum and nearby Fort Abercrombie.
