PRACTICE SETTING

Sanford Wheaton is a 15 bed Critical Access Hospital with an attached designated Provider Based Rural Health Clinic. Sanford Wheaton provides comprehensive health care services to more than 3,800 residents in Traverse County, plus neighboring communities.   A large range of services that goes beyond traditional medical care is used to meet the community’s healthcare needs.  We offer 24/7 emergency services, outpatient surgery, and several outreach services such as hem/onc, orthopedics, tele-psychiatry, endoscopy, podiatry, infusion therapy, port cares and sleep studies.  We have a cardiac rehab department with both Phase 2 and Phase 3 Cardiac Rehab, also accepting patients needing Heart Failure rehab. We offer PT/OT/Speech therapy, contracted services with Big Stone Therapies offering several specialties in care. We own our own ambulance with BLS & ALS and provide on-site services to all football games and county fair events.  We provide In-house Ultrasound, general x-ray, EKG, CT, Stress Tests, holter & event Monitor’s along with mobile mammography, and echocardiogram. Sanford Wheaton has six medical providers both full and part-time, which include 2 MDs and 4 APPs.  We have 78 total employees whom are dedicated, fun and skilled in their field.  We take pride in our rural community and care for those close to home.

Wheaton, Minnesota, located near where Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota meet, is centrally located to allow you to experience the unique geography of the Red River Valley, Continental Divide and the long ago melted glacial Lake Agassiz. Wheaton, with a population of 1,600, is located near Lake Traverse a source of wonderful year-round recreation.  The surrounding area also offers walleye fishing, small game and deer hunting.   Although many of Wheaton’s jobs are agricultural in nature, the community hosts countless, successful entrepreneurial ventures as well.  Wheaton’s Economic Development Authority supports both large and small businesses and is currently promoting the Manufacturing industry.  The local public school district features an elementary, middle school and high school.
