About Rice Medical

Rice Medical Center is a Critical Access Hospital with inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical, and obstetric services. The hospital also provides 24 hour emergency service coverage, a variety of specialty clinics, and a swing bed unit program. RMC has the latest state of the art radiographic technology and surgical equipment, as highlighted in our description of departmental services.

Rice Medical Center is a district hospital and also recently entered a management agreement with Critical Access Healthcare (CAH). CAH was formed in 2007 to bring unique solutions to Hospital Districts and governmental entities related to rural community healthcare needs. This new partnership will enable the hospital to provide enhanced programs and services, staffing, even more updated technology, and new medical equipment and facilities for the patients we serve.

In addition to our hospital staff, RMC has a committed number of volunteers, both in the Pink Ladies, our auxiliary, and the Rice Medical Center Employee Volunteers. Both of those groups give countless hours of their time and money to support the hospital and its services. Without their efforts, as well as the committed involvement of our locally elected Board of Directors, the hospital would not have been able to make many of the continual improvements our patients enjoy today.

About the Community

Eagle Lake has long been an agricultural community. Rice is the major crop; however, cotton, grains, and cattle production are also important to the economy. Sand and gravel mines around Eagle Lake supply the materials for construction to a large part of southeast Texas. Today, Eagle Lake is diversifying its economy with a strong emphasis on bringing new industry into the area as well as helping existing business prosper and grow.

The rice fields, along with the largest private lake in the State of Texas, Eagle Lake, provide an attractive wintering ground for many migratory birds. The hunting industry that thrives each winter has earned Eagle Lake the title — "Goose Hunting Capital  of the World."

In addition to the ducks and geese that winter in the Eagle Lake area, there are many other species of fowl that find an attractive habitat in the Eagle Lake area. At the Attwater’s Prairie Chicken Wild Life Preserve nearby, a major effort is being made to save the endangered species. The City has developed a nature area that  includes an observation platform overlooking the lake. This provides the public with a view of the lake and the many birds, alligators and other wildlife that make's this beautiful lake their home. Eagle Lake truly is —"A Nature Lovers Paradise."
