About Lake City Services

The Lake City VA Medical Center (VAMC) is one of two VAMCs in the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. Since its activation, the Lake City VA Medical Center has enhanced access to health care for Veterans residing in the surrounding rural areas.  As the health care system continuously works to transform the delivery of care for Veterans in North Florida and South Georgia, this state-of-the-art facility will not only meet the needs of Veterans today but assist in facing the challenges of tomorrow.  

  • The site of the Lake City VA Medical Center (VAMC) was purchased by the U.S. government in 1920 and officially became the Lake City VA Medical Center in 1978.
  • Since then, the Lake City VAMC has experienced continued growth in both the number of individual Veterans accessing the facility and the number of appointments requested and completed.
  • As of March 2021, more than 8,500 Veterans were actively receiving primary care at the Lake City VAMC.
  • The facility offers ample patient parking.
  • The medical center’s hours of operation are 24/7.
  • The Lake City VAMC is Columbia County’s second-largest employer.

Things To Do In Lake City

Lake City offers a variety of recreational opportunities and has many rivers and lakes offering scenic views. Wildlife and birds can be observed by the riverside and people can find opportunities for swimming, water skiing and tubing. The Olustee Battlefield State Monument is a popular historical site nearby. Several parks are also located nearby, such as Big Shoals State Park, Ichetucknee Springs State Park and O'Lena State Park. There are soccer fields, tennis courts, semi-private golf courses, auto race tracks and a variety of other recreational facilities available in Lake City as well.
