Our Community

Hannibal is a beautiful community located on the Mississippi River. The community is most well known as the boyhood home of celebrated author Mark Twain and more specifically the setting of his The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Historical sites related to Mark Twain and sites depicted in his fiction have become an important part of the town's legacy. With a population of just under 20,000 Hannibal has more parks per citizen than most towns in the Midwest, and our trail system is growing. Hannibal is a great place to hike or bike. Boaters will find easy access to the Mississippi, as well as local lakes.

Hannibal has grown into a thriving haven for artisans. Included in the famed "50 Miles of Art." Hannibal is home to numerous world-class artists and craftsmen. Each year there are two studio tours that highlight artists working studios.

Hannibal boasts a diverse industrial economy that includes the production of agricultural chemicals, food products, rubber and plastic products, electrical and automotive equipment, and various other manufactured goods.
