Position Details:

The successful Advanced Practitioner (APP) will support patient care from the point of admission to discharge in service, Step-Down, and ICU.
The cardiac surgery APP is the cornerstone of patient care. The APP manages all pre-operative and post-operative cardiac surgical patients within Hartford Hospital, performing H&P, assessing and documenting patient progress, participating in attending rounds, collaborating with a variety of consultants and specialties, and engaging in independent decision-making. This position requires management of emergency situations, care of a variety of cardiac surgical patients including all types of Durable Cardiac Assist Devices and heart transplants.
The APP manages multiple cardiac critical care patients with varied critical illness, comprehensive physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic results, hemodynamic/ventilator management, and invasive procedures. These patients require vigilance and consist of management. We provide Extensive training and supervision are provided to the APPs for skills such as arterial lines, central lines, feeding tubes, removal of pacer wires, transplant and LVAD management.
The Cardiac Surgical Service is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join their team at Hartford Hospital. The successful candidate will support patient care from the point of admission to discharge.
Role: Open to Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners
Location: 79 Jefferson Street, Hartford, 06102
Setting: Inpatient, cardiac/cardiothoracic ICU, critical care
Schedule: Full-time, rotating. Premium differentials offered.

Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioner Role Scope:
Under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with the practice physician(s), Advanced Practitioners perform routine physical examinations, and formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients.
In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, Advanced Practitioners develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists.
Advanced Practitioners provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider’s practice as designated by protocols and identifies problems outside of their scope of practice and refers appropriately to physician.
