As a Clinical Decision Unit Advanced Practice Provider, you will work alongside Emergency Medicine (EM) Physicians, other EM APPs, and EM nurses and staff to take care of patients and save lives. Though APPs in this role will collaborate with and share all patients with physicians, autonomy is both encouraged and fostered. Our EM CDU APPs will learn to manage acute and chronic conditions with increasing independent expertise and are encouraged to practice at the top of their license. Although the focus of this role is primarily clinical, there will be Career Development opportunities with access to get involved in Education and Quality Improvement initiatives.
Each year approximately 60,000 residents from the High Point, Winston-Salem, Kernersville and Greensboro areas choose AHWFB High Point Medical Center to care for them in all types of emergencies.
The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) at High Point Medical Center is a designated area within the hospital that allow our providers to monitor and evaluate the medical conditions of patients. CDU designed for patients who do not meet criteria for inpatient admission but are not well enough to go home and require further observation. This unit provides ongoing effort to improve patient experience by centralizing care for patients.
While in the CDU, patients will be regularly assessed by a multidisciplinary care team of physicians, advanced practice providers, and other clinical professionals. After providing all necessary diagnostic tests, medications, and therapies, providers will usually be able to make a decision about admitting the patient to the hospital or discharging them.
