Physician Assistant - Orthopedics - Hip and Knee Surgery (Baytown)

At Houston Methodist, the Physician Assistant (PA) functions as an advanced practice practitioner, responsible for maintaining and promoting the health of the patient requiring care, practicing medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician. This position will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care, under the supervision of a physician. The PA position examines, diagnoses, and decides treatment for patients, including analyzing and interpreting x-rays and lab results, writing prescriptions, taking patients’ histories, providing surgical assistance, and ordering various forms of therapy. This position may work in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can be performed independently under the license of a physician or as part of a treatment team. The PA position affects direct patient care according to the Board of Physician Assistant Examiners in the State of Texas and Houston Methodist policies and procedures.

Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join their Orthopedic Surgery team at the Houston Methodist Hospital – Baytown location. 

You will be working with Dr. Maxfield, a Hip and Knee Orthopedic Surgeon.  

David Maxfield, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee joint reconstruction. Dr. Maxfield treats patients with a spectrum of conditions including fractures and general musculoskeletal issues. His specific clinical interests include the treatment of arthritis of the hip and knee through both minimally and maximally invasive surgical techniques, robotic-assisted surgery, and revision total joint arthroplasty.  

"My goal as a physician is to listen to every patient. I want to understand what specific problem they are having and explore treatment options unique to that individual. My goal is to diagnose and educate each patient on evidence-based treatment options and pursue an individualized treatment plan to return the patient to their desired activities at the highest level possible. My expertise in hip and knee joint replacement surgery which include all surgical approaches to the hip and knee, minimally and maximally invasive surgical techniques, robotic-assisted surgery, and revision total joint arthroplasty, provide me with a broad toolkit to serve my patients."

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree
• NCCPA certification

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• One year of clinical experience
• 1 to 2 years of professional experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

• Licensed and credentialed by the Texas Board of Physician Assistants
• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
• Prescriptive authority privileges through the State of Texas
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration within 6 months of hire
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
• American Heart Association Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
