Nurse Practitioner | Le Bonheur Children's Hospital CVICU | Memphis, TN

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for planning and directing the delivery of primary health care and health education programs in association with Methodist Healthcare Primary Care Associates (MHPCA).  The incumbent will provide care and health education for patients and their family. Le Bonheur’s Heart Institute is nationally recognized as a top pediatric cardiology and heart surgery program.  We care for patients with congenital heart defects, cardiomyopathies, heart failure, arrhythmias and acquired heart disease from birth to adulthood.

Le Bonheur also has a thriving heart transplant program that performs around 10 heart transplants a year.

Le Bonheur recently expanded its Heart Institute and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). As a CVICU nurse practitioner, you will work with some of the country’s best critical care nurses and cardiologist in a critical care or step-down environment.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the assigned center according to approved protocol and acceptable standards.
• Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Medical Director/collaborating Physician.  Participates in the design and revision of protocols.
• Collaborates with Medical Physician and ancillary personnel as appropriate to promote quality care for patients.  Makes referrals as appropriate.
• Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
• Understands, applies and supports practice policies, procedures, goals and standards.
• Develops strong partnership with patients, family members, fellow physicians/nurses and support staff.  Focuses on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.

• Twelve patient care floors with the capacity for 255 inpatient beds and the ability to expand.
• Dedicated units for pediatric intensive care, cardiovascular intensive care, and neonatal intensive care.
• An Emergency Department with 64 patient treatment rooms, more than double the previous size.
• New diagnostic and treatment services include a 14-room surgical suite, a two-room cardiac catheterization laboratory, an interventional radiology suite, and an endoscopy suite.
• 10-Bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
• Intraoperative MRI (3 Tesla)
• Dedicated Neuro-ICU (9 Beds)
• Ability to perform PET, SPECT, FMRI, MEG, MRI, and co-register.
• A significant increase in research space
• Private patient rooms are designed to accommodate comfortable sleeping spaces for two parents.
• Playrooms and space for families to gather on every inpatient floor.
• Diversionary settings for inpatients, outpatients, and siblings include a reading room, a mini-movie theater, and play areas.
• A parent stays unit for family members who want to remain close to their children in critical care.
• Le Bonheur Club’s Parent Resource Center, with access to learning materials, the Internet, and patient educators.
