Exciting Opportunity: Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Position in Neuro Critical Care & Neurosurgery at Mercy Health Neuroscience Institute

Mercy Health Physicians is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Neuro Critical Care (NCC) team at St. Vincent Medical Center. This is a unique opportunity to provide high-quality inpatient NCC services within a collaborative, patient-centered environment that prioritizes excellence in care and education.

Position Overview

  • Role: Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner, Neuro Critical Care
  • Location: St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio
  • Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM (12-hour nocturnist schedule)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive handoffs at the start and end of each shift to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with neurology residents and multidisciplinary teams to manage the NCC service overnight.
  • Evaluate and manage neurosurgery consults from the Emergency Department.
  • Partner with NCC and neurosurgery physicians on-call for complex cases and critical decision-making.
  • Contribute to neurology resident education by participating in teaching and mentoring activities.
  • Coordinate care across specialized departments, including Neurosurgery, Endovascular/Stroke, and Neurology.

Candidate Requirements

  • Licensure:
  • Current APN license or Physician Assistant license in Ohio.
  • Certificate of Authority from the Ohio Board of Nursing (for NPs).
  • Certifications:
  • Nurse Practitioners: APN certification by a national certifying organization.
  • Physician Assistants: Graduation from an accredited program and current NCCPA certification.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (mandatory).
  • Experience:
  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a related field.
  • Additional Qualifications:
  • Eligibility for prescriptive authority in Ohio.
  • Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and adaptability in high-acuity settings.
