Site Description
Founded in 1911, the 71-bed
Grayling Hospital serves residents and visitors to Crawford,
Roscommon, and Oscoda counties. Located 50 miles east of Traverse
City, Grayling Hospital is one of nine community hospitals in the
Munson Healthcare System, northern Michigan's leading and largest
healthcare provider. Near the busy I-75 corridor,
Grayling Hospital's Emergency Department triages and treats trauma
patients and others with emergency needs. The hospital also serves
Camp Grayling, the largest National Guard training center in the
country. Military and law enforcement personnel train year-round
and about 200 camp attendees are treated in the hospital's
Emergency Department each year.
Community Description
The Grayling area is a
beautiful destination located in the "up north" area of
Michigan. It is an approximate three-hour or less drive from the
metro Detroit, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and Flint areas. The
region is well known for its scenic beauty and outdoor
recreational opportunities. The AuSable and Manistee
Rivers, both of which flow through the Grayling area, are
well-known worldwide for their trout fishing. With clear water, a
sandy bottom, and no rocks or rapids, these are perfect rivers for
fishing and also popular destinations for canoeing and kayaking.
Canoes and kayaks are available to rent from local outfitters to explore the scenic rivers,
which are surrounded by beautiful forests and wildlife.<
