Pediatric Psychologist with a focus on Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Pain

The Division of Psychology Services in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Akron Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a pediatric psychologist to join our expanding group. The selected candidate will divide their time between our Hematology/Oncology team and our Pain Center. Strong collaboration skills for working with physicians, nurses, social workers and other health care professionals are essential. Candidates who are from backgrounds that are traditionally under-represented in medicine are encouraged to apply.

Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Psychology Service: This position offers the opportunity to join a well-established team of psychologists who provide services to our Hematology/Oncology patient population. The psychologist would provide integrated, evidenced-based behavioral health intervention in inpatient and outpatient settings to patients ages  0-21 years old with cancer diagnoses or hematological conditions. Providing integrated care in the Late Effects/ Survivorship Clinic, Hemophilia and Thrombosis Comprehensive Clinic, and Sickle Cell Clinic will be an integral part of this position.  The Hem/Onc team is active in grant writing and procurement. Additionally, research participation will be encouraged and supported. As we expand this service, ample opportunities for program development are available. The selected candidate will have approximately .5 FTE dedicated to this role.   

Pain Psychology Position: :  The psychologist will dedicate the other .5 FTE to the Pain Center.  The Pain Center is an interdisciplinary outpatient clinic that serves youth with Chronic Pain Conditions including Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, Juvenile Arthritis, and other pain conditions. The psychologist will provide evidenced based care in this interdisciplinary setting. This program is experiencing significant growth and additional opportunities for program development and research participation will be available. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth who have chronic medical conditions.  Previous experience in providing care to youth with chronic medical conditions in a pediatric medical center is a requirement.

  Supervision, teaching and training of postdoctoral psychology students and psychology practicum students will be a primary responsibility of this position. Opportunities for research are also available and supported. 

Requirements include a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical psychology (child or pediatric emphasis preferred) from an APA-accredited doctoral program, completion of an APA-accredited internship (child or pediatric emphasis preferred), license eligibility in the State of Ohio, and a strong interest in evidence based pediatric psychology.  Applicants who completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology are preferred.
