PRN General Surgical APP

Job Summary

Novant Health Medical Group is looking for a conscientious, compassionate, and skilled Surgical Advanced Practice Provider to join our established, growing acute care general surgery practice of 7 physicians and 3 APPs in Winston-Salem, NC. This position supports and provides clinical care for patients in both the ambulatory and acute settings. We are recruiting a provider who is committed, compassionate and caring and looking to assist our 7 general surgeons in a care team approach. The ideal candidate is patient-centric, flexible, adaptable, dependable, and respectful of all team members. Experience in surgical assisting desired.

Our expert surgeons, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants work collaboratively to provide remarkable care to our operative and non-operative patients. The selected APP will be responsible for performing a variety of functions under the supervision of our surgeons. These functions, though not all-inclusive, include seeing patients in the clinic setting, surgical assisting in the operating room, and rounding at our acute facility.

Winston-Salem has 2 minor league baseball teams (The Winston-Salem Dash, The Greensboro Grasshoppers) and a team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, a partner of Major League Baseball, The High Point Rockers. We have college football (Wake Forest), several local wineries, and a large art community (theater, ballet). We are 2 hours north of Charlotte, 2 hours to the east of the North Carolina Mountains, Asheville is less than 2 hours to the Southwest and Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill are about 2 hours to the east where you can catch some good basketball and larger concerts. We are within 4 hours of the North Carolina beaches and less than 3 hours to Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia, a popular summer destination. We have an international airport in Greensboro and Charlotte.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree required. Either a graduate of an NCCPA accredited physician assistant program, or NP or post Master's NP program required. RNFA required for NP Applicants.

Experience: One year of experience working in general or other surgical subspecialty preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Current NP or PA license in appropriate state, registry required w/state medical board, current DEA registry and ACLS( not required for the in- office only NP/PA) and BLS, required.

Additional Skills Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Proficient in the performance of clinic and bedside general surgery procedures, including but not limited to laceration repair, incision and drainage of large abscesses, punch biopsies, removal of superficial skin lesions is a must. The candidate must be comfortable working in the operating room, clinic and surgical wards. Thorough skill in obtaining a surgical history and conducting a physical examination is a must. Must be comfortable writing complete daily progress notes, consultation notes, and writing discharge summaries. Communication skills, both verbal and written, general computer knowledge is preferred; ability to work independently, yet in collaboration with physicians, nurses and care team. Ability to use problem-solving, decision making, and creative thinking skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing clinical environment.
