Mercy Health Physicians is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join our General Surgery service line. The PA will function as an integral team member, covering consults, ongoing patient care, and care coordination. Daily duties will be assigned by the chief resident, with direction and career development provided by the General Surgery Program Director. Responsibilities will fluctuate based on volume and resident staffing.
Attend team sign-out at the beginning of the shift.
Assume care of patients as assigned by the supervising resident, including:
Performing daily patient assessments, history updates, exams, and reviewing test results.
Documenting updates in daily progress notes.
Presenting patients on rounds to the attending physician.
Seeking assistance from the most senior resident; if unavailable, consulting the attending physician.
Addressing nurse and staff concerns and responding to family questions for assigned patients.
Conducting new patient history and physical exams for admissions, consults, and alerts as directed by the senior resident or attending physician.
Providing follow-up on pending patient results and addressing staff or family concerns when residents are unavailable.
Assisting in the OR and with procedures when residents are unavailable or short-staffed, as care demands allow.
Cover services for ACS/MIS/Trauma/Vascular as dictated by volume and need.
Work schedule will be determined among the Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and includes:
Nights and weekends as needed.
Rotation including two holidays per year.
Education: Master’s degree from a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical patient care preferred
Licensure: Active Physician Assistant licensure in the State of Ohio required
Certifications:
BLS and ACLS required
ATLS certification
Any additional specialty-specific certifications as required
Credentialing: Must meet qualifications for clinical privileges through the Medical Staff Office
