Nurse Practitioner – Wound Care & Limb Preservation | Beautiful Reno/Lake Tahoe

Renown Health, northern Nevada’s largest not-for-profit, locally owned health network, is excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary Wound Care and Limb Preservation (LPS) team. In this role, you will collaborate with clinical teams to deliver exceptional patient care in a dynamic environment focused on limb preservation and wound care. With dedicated leadership and a supportive team, you will have the resources needed to provide the highest level of care while working at the top of your license.

Position Highlights:

  • Schedule: 7 on 7 off  with balance of autonomy and collaboration within the interdisciplinary LPS team.
  • Role: Comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the Wound Care and Limb Preservation specialty, including performing bedside procedures and collaborating with specialists in Orthopedics, Infectious Disease, Vascular, and other care teams.

Role & Responsibilities of LPS APRN:

The Acute Hospitalist Limb Preservation Service (LPS) functions as an advanced practice provider-led program that bridges multiple specialties to ensure coordinated care for patients with complex lower extremity wounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Initial Consultation & Diagnostics:
    • Perform bedside assessments, including wound evaluation and assessment of pedal blood flow.
    • Order additional imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI) and vascular studies as needed.
  2. Specialty Coordination & Clinical Decision-Making:
    • Vascular Surgery: Facilitate consultation for potential intervention if impaired blood flow is identified.
    • Orthopedic/Foot & Ankle Surgery: Coordinate surgical evaluation and clinical recommendations if osteomyelitis is suspected.
    • Infectious Disease: Consult for complex infections or culture analysis.
    • Wound Care: Order advanced wound therapies and coordinate with the wound care team for VAC management and dressing changes.
  3. Procedural & Perioperative Care:
    • Perform bedside procedures such as nail care, punch biopsies, tenotomies, toenail removal, wound debridement, and biologic applications.
    • Provide post-operative wound management, dressing changes, and follow-up recommendations.
    • Facilitate discharge planning and outpatient follow-up to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree as a Registered Nurse (RN), with Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC-AG).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years as an RN, with preference for clinical Nurse Practitioner experience in wound care, limb preservation, or a related field.
  • Licensure: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in Nevada, DEA registration, and controlled substance license.
  • Certification: Board Certification as an FNP
