John Peter Smith Hospital (JPS) in Fort Worth, Texas, is offering a highly structured, year-long Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Fellowship in our Level III, 45-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This program provides in-depth clinical training, didactic coursework, and hands-on experience in a high-acuity environment, preparing new NNPs for a successful career in neonatal care.

Fellowship Highlights

Position Details
- Full-time position with 12-hour shifts (two NNPs during the day, one at night)
- No outpatient clinic, well-baby nursery, or transport team coverage
- Fellowship curriculum includes:
- Attendance at 80 percent of mandatory lectures
- Participation in biweekly journal clubs and literature reviews
- Completion of two skills labs
- Development and presentation of a quality improvement project to NICU leadership
Core Responsibilities
- Manage NICU admissions and discharges
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures
- Lead neonatal resuscitations at high-risk deliveries and cesarean sections
- Educate and support families through care plans and discharge processes
- Collaborate with NICU staff and frontline clinicians to optimize patient care
- Develop expertise in NICU-specific protocols and equipment
Qualifications
- Current Texas APRN license with prescriptive authority and Texas RN license
- National Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
- DEA Certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- New graduate with less than one year of experience in a Level III or IV NICU
- Experience attending high-risk deliveries is preferred
