POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bilingual Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Laborist will focus exclusively on inpatient care, specializing in labor and delivery at Conway Medical Center. This position emphasizes serving a diverse patient population, including Spanish-speaking patients, to provide culturally competent care. The CNM will collaborate closely with the OB/GYN team to manage routine and high-risk deliveries, assist with cesarean sections, and ensure comprehensive postpartum care. There are no outpatient clinic responsibilities, allowing full attention to labor and delivery care.
SCHEDULE:
- Rotating 12- or 24-hour shifts with night, weekend, and holiday coverage.
- 24/7 coverage shared among CNMs and OB/GYN physicians to ensure continuous care.
- No outpatient clinic responsibilities.
SUPPORT & RESOURCES:
- Collaborative practice model with OB/GYN physicians, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians.
- 7 physicians, 1 OP/IP CNM, 1 WHNP (1 physician and 1 APP onboarding in the next 6 months)
- Dedicated labor and delivery nurses, anesthesia team, and surgical support for C-sections.
- Access to Cerner EMR for efficient documentation and patient management.
- CMC operates a Level 2 nursery, managing deliveries at 32 weeks' gestation or later.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
- Manage routine vaginal deliveries and assist OB/GYN physicians with cesarean sections.
- Newborn deliveries at 32 weeks' gestation or later.
- Provide comprehensive care for patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum.
- For pregnancies that are more premature (before 32 weeks) or require more specialized care, the patients are transferred to facilities with Level 3 or Level 4 NICUs, which can provide more advanced neonatal care for extremely premature or critically ill newborns.
- Participate in patient education and birth plan development, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for expecting mothers.
- Typical census: 8-12 deliveries per day, with an average of 1-2 C-sections per shift.
PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS & VOLUME:
- Care for a diverse population, including Spanish-speaking patients, adolescents, and adults.
- Manage prenatal, labor, and postpartum care for approximately 2,000 annual deliveries, reflecting the hospital’s growing service area.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Board-certified and licensed as a Certified Nurse Midwife in South Carolina.
- Experience in labor and delivery, including managing routine deliveries and assisting with C-sections.
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.
