Opportunity Details

Location: Chickasaw Nation Medical Center – Internal Medicine Inpatient (Hospitalist)

Supervision:

  • Reports to the Chief of Inpatient Internal Medicine and designated supervising physician(s).
  • Supervisors oversee all medical services provided, ensuring the role is not autonomous.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Medical Staff Bylaws, policies, and regulations.
  • Conduct patient workups, write orders, and document progress notes with supervising physician oversight.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including lab tests, wound care, and prescription writing (including controlled substances).
  • Ensure patient continuity of care, discharge summaries, and treatment plan revisions.
  • Recognize and address life-threatening situations promptly.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives, hospital committees, and continuing education.
  • Maintain sensitivity to Native American culture and ensure age-appropriate care.
  • Counsel and educate patients, refer to social services, and promote patient safety.

Qualifications:

Family Nurse Practitioner:

  • Graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner program with Oklahoma Board of Nursing certification.
  • Active APRN license with prescriptive authority and DEA license.
  • Documented experience or recent training in family practice.

Physician Assistant:

  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited program with successful completion of the national certifying exam.
  • Active, unrestricted Oklahoma PA license with DEA certification.
  • Documented experience or recent training in family practice.

Preferred Experience:

  • 2-4 years in family or inpatient medicine.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
  • Adaptable to a high-stress environment with exposure to contagious diseases and potentially hostile individuals.

Work Environment:

  • Inpatient hospital setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases, radiation, and hazardous materials.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (e.g., masks, gloves) as needed.

This role requires strong clinical skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital environment.

About the Medical Center

Chickasaw Nation Medical Center is a 72-bed facility which includes robust inpatient and outpatient services to include inpatient medicine and ICU, ED, general and specialty surgery, anesthesia, podiatry, OB-GYN, pediatrics, primary care, psychiatry, behavioral health, specialty outpatient services to include rheumatology, dermatology, cardiology, nephrology, infectious disease, and infusion clinic, endocrinology and specialty diabetes care, pathology, optometry and ophthalmology, inpatient and outpatient pharmacy,  audiology, residency clinic, imaging, pulmonary services and social work.
