Clinical PA/FNP with Breast Surgery Oncology – University of AZ Cancer Center

Banner University Medicine Tucson seeks a highly motivated and independent Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner to join our clinical Breast Surgery Oncology Division at Banner University Medicine, University of Arizona Cancer Center. The position will include managing an independent daily clinic with a mix of new and established patients.

Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will be interested in women’s health, highly organized, a team player, and enjoy working independently. The ideal candidate will have, or be willing to learn and develop, the skills to:

  • Perform directed history and physical exam for new breast patients
  • Assess breast cancer risk using available risk assessment tools
  • Evaluate and manage common breast complaints such as breast pain, nipple discharge, breast mass, mastitis
  • Evaluate and develop a risk management plan for patients at increased breast cancer risk
  • Acquire and use basic breast ultrasound skills
  • Perform basic breast procedures such as punch biopsy, drain removal, abscess I&D, seroma aspiration, injection of lesions
  • Provide ongoing follow-up/survivorship care for breast cancer patients
  • Provide ongoing follow-up for patients at elevated lifetime risk of breast cancer
  • Provide follow up for other benign breast conditions as needed
  • Refer to other specialties as needed (medical oncology, plastic surgery, genetics)
  • Call patients with results of and recommendations from imaging and biopsies

Attendance at weekly tumor board meetings, monthly breast team meetings and quarterly NAPBC meetings is expected, as well as occasional attendance at various other meetings. This is a highly independent position within a dynamic and collegial team, with the unique opportunity to manage a patient panel with light supervision and involve the surgeon for support as needed and be a participant in helping develop ongoing quality improvements and initiatives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current Board Certification, DEA license, and BLS certification are required
  • Graduate degree from an accredited NP/PA program with a concentration in Oncology
  • Oncology experience is preferred
  • 1+ year of experience preferred, but most important is comfort in practicing as a highly independent clinical provider

Work Schedule: M-F | 5-Day, 8-Hour Shifts | No Call (except for limited coverage during occasional faculty absence)
