We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our team as a Triage Provider in our friendly, rural emergency department. SWOPE physicians is an independent small group that has staffed the Sierra Nevada Hospital Emergency Department for over 25 years. The Emergency Department is a 21 bed main ED, with a Rapid Medical Evaluation area with three Additional flexible treatment areas (managed by the PA/NP).
- The Emergency Department has a hybrid triage model with a nurse and NP/PA working together in a triage area.
- The applicant will see patients coming through the front door and will manage most of the ESI level 4's that come in during the shift hours.
- Workups are started in the triage area, x-rays, ekgs, ect.
- Ambulances and ESI levels 1-2 are seen by the MD in the main ED.
- We are double coverage with two docs 10-10 and a PA during 11-1130 hours for triple coverage mid-day.
- Our volume is ~30k patients.
- There is a productivity bonus for >1.5 patients/hr with opportunity to make additional pay.
- MD's are available 20 feet away for consultation, patient discussions, or help with procedures.
- We review all x-rays and ekgs in real time.
In our rural emergency department, we have busy days and mellow days. We have a generally functional, friendly, busy emergency department. For successful providers in this environment, flexibility is key, as is prior ED experience and procedural competence. We have taken new grads and trained providers and would consider them for a good candidate, however two years of experience in the ED or urgent care setting is ideal.
Responsibilities:
- Have a valid California license to practice, as well as ACLS/PALS/BLS
- Be comfortable managing patients with multiple chronic conditions.
- Work with triage nurse and lobby nurse to rapidly evaluate, start work ups, and help streamline flow of the department
- Competence independently performing appropriate focused history and physical exam.
- Perform procedures: Suturing, abscess drainage, foreign body removal, splinting non-displaced fractures, and relocation of small joints.
- Ideally 2 years ED or urgent care prior work.
