Job Summary:

Medical City Children's Congenital Heart Surgery Center is seeking a full time Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their premier group.

Qualified Candidates:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Acute Care Program or Physician Assistant program
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure or PA licensure
  • Current Nurse Practitioner certification in Pediatric Acute Care
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); PALS provider card as required by department and facility
  • Eligible for hospital privileges
  • Previous experience with Pediatric Cardiac ICU or Congenital Heart Surgery required
Job Responsibilities and Qualifications:
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical and ongoing clinical assessments for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill perioperative and post-operative patients
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs such as x-rays, EKGs and laboratory tests
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to patient’s condition and current care
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients
  • Proficient use of EMR in the delivery of care
  • Organizes and participates in weekly Multidisciplinary Case Conferences
  • Monday-Friday day position with shared call responsibilities

On-site there are 108 NICU beds and a 12-bed dedicated congenital heart unit with a 12-bed step down unit. They cover a robust number of neonates with complex congenital heart disease, some adults, and no transplants.
